Reflections Eco Reserve is ideally located on the Rondevlei, within the Wilderness Lakes District of the Garden Route National Park. The 42 hectares is a conservation triumph whilst also being amongst the biggest such undertaking on the Garden Route. This owner managed and run reserve is a labour of love and a shared vision to create a tourism offering that is sustainable, comfortable, and environmentally friendly.

Accommodation is a choice of 4 spacious and well-appointed eco-friendly timber chalets that sleeps up to 4 adults and two children. A bathroom with bath and shower, an outdoor shower and an additional toilet. The living areas are open plan with kitchen, dining and sitting areas, and indoor fireplace. This seamlessly leads on to the wrap around balcony and private outdoor entertainment area and braai.

The other more intimate option is the glamping tents that are completely private and have their own off grid system with breath taking views across the Rondevlei lake and beyond. These eco-friendly glamping experiences are built on wooden decks, has a queen bed, a kitchenette, en-suite bathroom and private braai area fully immersed in the fynbos environment.

The Reserve has an easy 3.5km trail walk through the fynbos, an observation deck to while away a few hours with a book. If you’re a keen birder always keep your binoculars handy. You are spoilt for choice for a sundowner or picnic spot and there are many viewpoints in the reserve to watch the spectacular sunrise or sunset.

It’s quite hard to believe that this off grid, environmentally friendly, picturesque setting was once completely overgrown with alien species.The aggressive clearing and rehabilitation programme is ongoing with over 3500 indigenous trees and counting planted with the goal to return the land to its natural wild state. This has resulted in a meaningful return of diverse species of bird life, you may even hear the call of the Fish Eagle. There has also been sightings of caracal, bush pig and bush buck.

The Rondevlei is a designated Ramsar site, so boating and fishing isn’t allowed which contributes to the peaceful and tranquil setting which has an impressive 140 plus species of birds including resident nesting Fish Eagles as well as Cape clawless otter, water mongoose, caracal, bushpig, grysbok and grey duiker. 

The Garden Route is a popular destination with locals and international visitors alike for its scenic beauty and experiences. The Reserve is well located for easy access to the beaches, mountains, forest, birding and more whilst being an indigenous oasis of calm and tranquillity.
