When visiting Knysna, there are certain must do’s - well for us as a family anyway. We always head to Il De Pain for a meal and do some sort of activity which includes the Knysna Lagoon and Heads. This is a deal breaker for our daughter, but this trip we hadn’t quite decided what we’d do in the area. Decision made when the opportunity arose (last minute) to experience Ocean Sailing Charters due to it soon doing some joint packages with our friends at Adventure Zone.

We very quickly moved things around and headed off for lunch before our 2pm departure. Firstly, do yourself a favour and go here. The exceptional food, friendly staff and setting close to several water-based activities makes it an ideal pre or post thirst and appetite quencher.

Ocean Sailing Charters is a family owned and run operation where they clearly love what they do and take such pleasure in your enjoyment of the activity booked.

We had no idea what we were in for only that we would be sailing for approximately 90 minutes! Imagine our excitement when we realised the stunning Schionning designed Wilderness 1650X named LaraBella would be our vessel for the afternoon. We were warmly created by the friendly crew and owner and given a safety briefing prior to boarding. Oh no shoes allowed so make sure the pedi is looking good!

We got to explore the beaut of a Catamaran with its spacious lounge and bar area with wine coolers, coffee machines and more, 4 en-suite cabins and all the toys including SUP’s, fishing equipment and a braai area for the longer trips and private charters. The Cat can accommodate a maximum of 12 guests to ensure the experience remains intimate and lux!

We headed to the front and the tweens promptly settled themselves on the trampolines and off we went. What a stunning way to head out towards the heads with drinks in hand taking in the picturesque scenery. The onboard team unobtrusively take care of all your needs and are so genuinely invested in you having a good time. When we reached the heads, we all had to put on life jackets and remain seated. What an exhilarating experience. We sailed through the heads and out to sea, it was a bumpy ride which made it that much more fun especially since we all felt so safe with the skipper and team who clearly are highly experienced sailors.

I honestly loved it more than I thought I would as I slowed down and just sat back and took in the scenic splendour around me from my vantage on this luxurious yacht. Going through the heads and sailing out to sea was a bucket list experience and one I would highly recommend when in the area.
