Cape Town is quite unique in that there is a huge variety of shore entries available on both sides of the peninsula. False Bay has beautiful, thick kelp forests which creates an unusual environment for exploring, as well as a refuge for small animals and schools of reef fish. One will encounter numerous nudibranchs (over 80 species have been documented), crustaceans and lobsters, anemones, feather-stars, brittle-stars, sponges, sea-fans, octopuses and cuttlefish, as well as many species of interesting fish, such as the Klipvis of which there are 34 known species in False Bay alone. False Bay falls into a Marine Protected Area where no marine organisms may be removed or disturbed. Shore diving lends itself to small groups, longer dives, exploration and a more intimate diving experience. Photographers often prefer shallow shore dives due to better light available and shore diving also suits less experienced and confident divers. Our shore diving package includes all diving equipment, transfers from the dive center to the dive site and back, lunch with hot or cold drink and a good debrief afterwards. We have many marine ID books in the dive center to help you identify the critters you have seen.

The harbour tour is 1hr- 1hr30 mins long, we start off with an introduction to stand up paddle boarding then when you are ready we head out into the bay paddling past the South African Navy and the beautiful yachts in the Harbour.  This is the perfect family friendly activity and suitable for everyone from the age of 4 and up.  

Afternoon Shark Cage Diving Trip in Simon's Town Please note: Only children 9 and older are allowed on the boat! Our trips run from Simon's Town, which is only one hour from Cape Town. For the afternoon shark cage diving, we chose to only take small groups on our boat, Blue Pointer, so you can enjoy a comfortable trip in a more personal and exclusive environment. No Scuba qualifications are necessary! The cage floats just under the surface of the water, and it is situated alongside the boat. Only 5 enter the cage at a time, all scuba equipment stays on board and only the air-hose enters the cage, allowing you to enjoy a great dive without cumbersome, heavy tanks and gear. The average dive time is 20 minutes depending on the shark activity. Once everyone has had a go, and if there is enough time, then a second dive is allowed. Our crew is highly trained and safety is of utmost importance. During our afternoon shark cage diving trip you will be able to see the Sharks from a point-blank range and the best part is that this trip revolves around shark cage diving. No diving experience is necessary. We do offer shark diving ALL year around. Shark species can include Broadnose Sevengill cow sharks, Great white sharks, and the odd Bronzie or Copper Shark. Kelp Forest Dive One of our more popular kelp forest sites is at Pyramid Rock where we have a good possibility of encountering the Sevengill shark, which is also called the Cow shark or Broadnose sevengill. The maximum depth is only 12 metres making it ideal for beginner and junior divers to join. The shallow depths and picturesque environment makes this is the ideal environment for photographers aiming to capture these sharks in their natural habitat. The Cowsharks aggregate in the shallow channel between Pyramid Rock and the shore. If the sharks are present, there can be up to 30 sharks in the aggregation. Their curious and inquisitive nature means there is no baiting involved and we rely solely on a specific area where these animals are known to aggregate. Aside from the main attraction, the kelp forest is a beautiful environment to explore. There is an abundance of life in the kelp forest understorey. We do have times when the sharks are not present in the area – please enquire about recent sightings when booking to have realistic expectations. If the Cowsharks are not evident, then look out for the Spotted Gully sharks, which attain 1.7 metres in length. This is a timid shark more easily approached by freedivers than SCUBA divers. Then there are several species of catshark: the Pyjama catshark, Puffadder Shyshark, Leopard shyshark and Dark shyshark. These smaller sharks are between 50cm and 1.2 metres in length. The huge Short-tailed rays can occasionally be spotted. These rays grow up to 2 metres across the disk. Cape Fur Seal Dive The Cape Fur Seal dive is a super fun and interactive dive and one of the signature dives that Cape Town has offered for more than two decades. The seals are very playful and love to show their acrobatic skills to divers. These seals are used to divers and are not shy at all, they will often jump in the water in large numbers to come and investigate and play with divers. We dive at Partridge Point, an exposed haul-out spot for seals. There are times when the water can be rough at the site due to waves or currents. We will make a careful assessment before entering the water and reserve the right to divert the divers to a more protected site if conditions warrant it. A shallow section of the reef, known as the amphitheatre, is the best spot to interact with the Seals. The deeper sections of the reef offer beautiful marine life, swim-throughs and large sea fans.

Simon’s Town, Penguin Trail This route starts in the protected Simon’s Town harbour from Long Beach. We do a tour of the naval base and then paddle to SeaFourth to stretch our legs and get an up-close and personal look at the Penguins. From here, weather permitting, we paddle to Windmill beach for a swim and then head back to long beach.

Wreck Diving The Cape waters are littered with thousands of shipwrecks, recent and ancient, on the shore and in deep water. Common wreck dives are the Maori, the Astor, the Katzu Maru, the Smitswinkel Bay wrecks (of which there are five) and the SAS Pietermaritzburg. The commonly dived wrecks vary in depth and can range between 12m to 40m. We can take you to several wrecks and will pick them depending on your dive qualification. Reef Diving Diving in and around Cape Town offers one a huge range of possibilities: from majestic kelp forests to cold-water coral gardens and deep reefs. The Western Cape is the smallest complete floral kingdom in the world and this diversity is mirrored underwater with the unique positioning of the peninsula at the junction of two major ocean currents. False Bay has been recognised as a biodiversity hotspot due to the numbers of endemic animals living in these waters. The shallower reefs are very colourful and are dominated by kelp forests with an understorey of delicate marine organisms. The deeper reefs host sea whips and fans, an abundance of reef fish, small sharks, octopuses, nudibranchs, crabs, sponges and cold water corals. Many of our reefs allow you to do really good multi-level dives, with depths between 30m and 10m.
