Coasteering is a brand new adventure activity that allows you to get up close and personal with the ocean! Pioneered in Wales and Scotland, Gravity is proud to be the first to offer this activity in South Africa. What makes it better is that it is right on our doorstep in Simonstown, close to Boulders Beach. Coasteering bears some resemblance to Canyoning or Kloofing but takes place along a protected coastline rather than in a river course. Each participant is equipped with wetsuit, PFD, helmet, and is accompanied by a guide. The aim is to explore the inter-tidal zone by snorkeling, swimming, and rock jumping. The crystal clear waters and protection from the South Easter make this the perfect location for all skill levels. An added bonus is the abundance of marine life and if you lucky you will come face to face with the African Penguin! Although there are a number of rock jumps up to 8-10m depending on the tide, none of these are compulsory so you won’t be pressured into something you don’t want to do. Cape Town is quite unique in that there is a huge variety of shore entries available on both sides of the peninsula. False Bay has beautiful, thick kelp forests which creates an unusual environment for exploring, as well as a refuge for small animals and schools of reef fish. One will encounter numerous nudibranchs (over 80 species have been documented), crustaceans and lobsters, anemones, feather-stars, brittle-stars, sponges, sea-fans, octopuses and cuttlefish, as well as many species of interesting fish, such as the Klipvis of which there are 34 known species in False Bay alone. False Bay falls into a Marine Protected Area where no marine organisms may be removed or disturbed. Shore diving lends itself to small groups, longer dives, exploration and a more intimate diving experience. Photographers often prefer shallow shore dives due to better light available and shore diving also suits less experienced and confident divers. Our shore diving package includes all diving equipment, transfers from the dive center to the dive site and back, lunch with hot or cold drink and a good debrief afterwards. We have many marine ID books in the dive center to help you identify the critters you have seen.

Join James from Cape Wonder Tours on an immersive and adventurous Marine Adventure like no other. This 3 to 4 hour experience will take you on a journey as you discover the incredible coast line between Kommetjie and Noordhoek along the Cape Peninsula. Your journey starts in Kommetjie where you will be fitted for a wetsuit. From here you will proceed to slipway where adventure starts. The boat trip will head to the furthest point, the Bos wreck situated just off Sandy Beach. Along the way, James will provide you with the rich history of the wreck and local area. From here, you will proceed to Duiker Island in the shadows of Karkonkelberg. Duiker Island is home to an incredible population of Cape Fur Seals. Here you get to swim and snorkel with the Cape fur seals, an activity like no other! Next up on the tour is exploring the hidden coves along Chapman’s Peak Drive. Ths unreal experience will give you a different perspective of this famous attractions. For the adrenaline junkies, there are a couple of rock jumps into the freezing Atlantic Ocean to get the blood pumping. The boat trip will now head back to Kommetjie along the Noordhoek coast-line. After changing into dry clothes, coffee is the order of the day! Please note this experience is extremely weather dependent. Your launch time will be confirmed the day before. The boat, Dream Catcher, is the first boat in South Africa to be designed specifically for whale watching. It is extremely comfortable and spacious, with on board toilets, observation deck for photography enthusiasts, PA system and even a hydrophone! Dream Catcher is 14m long and complies with all the safety regulations set out by the marine authorities. Once you have arrived at The Great White House, you will receive a brief introductory talk about the route, safety, and what to look out for. Dyer Island is located 8 km from shore and is an access controlled Important Bird Area (IBA) for the conservation of its many resident bird species, including African penguins. Adjacent to Dyer Island is Geyser Rock, home to a 60,000 strong Cape fur seal colony. These seals are present all year round. We will take you into the channel of water between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock known as the world famous ‘Shark Alley’. We will then take you to the whale hot-spots in the bay.
