Sighting include mainly Southern Right Whales, however Humpback Whales, Bryde’s Whales, Dolphins and Penguins are also seen quite frequently. Additional sightings include a variety of marine birds as well as the endangered African Penguin. Our custom and purpose built catamaran ensures the ultimate comfort and stability to guests and the numerous viewing platforms allows offer spectacular viewing opportunities for all guests. Whale season is between June and December when the Southern Right Whales migrate to warmer waters to breed and calve. Trips last between 1h30 minutes and 3h00 and depends on the traveling time to the whales. Trips depart daily at 09h00, 12h00 and 15h00 from Hermanus, known as the whale capital of the world. Southern Right Charters are permitted up to 50 feet from the whales. It is not uncommon for these curious creatures to swim right up to the boat. We operate a half day tour 45 minutes from Cape Town to see a variety of shark species throughout the year according to the seasons, weather, water temperature and other factors. We operate half day shark tours to either Seal Island or Cape Point as both offer very different opportunities and visibility. Possible shark species can include Seven gill cow sharks, Mako Sharks, Blue sharks and Great white sharks. The location for the day will be determined by the best shark activity and sea conditions and will be confirmed with you the day before your trip. One of our areas, Seal Island, False Bay is famous for the predation of Great Whites on Cape Fur seals The area and this behavior have been featured on many documentaries including Air Jaws on the Discovery Channel with Chris Fallows, our owner, as co-host. OUR BOAT Our vessel is a 36 foot catamaran, specifically built for cage diving and viewing the sharks from the surface. A dry cabin, soft cushioned seats and a flush toilet ensure your comfort at sea. Our vessel complies with all safety requirements and Great white shark permit conditions. We send the boat for annual safety inspections at the South African Maritime Safety Authority. Safety equipment includes life jackets, first aid kit, radio and cellular phone. Children rates do not apply. Children aged 10 and up are allowed on the boat and children 12 and up are alloed in the cage CAGE DIVING A small group of guests on board allows for better viewing opportunities and a longer cage dive. The cage accommodates four guests comfortably. It is fixed to the boat and sits just above the water surface. NO DIVING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Our Most Popular Daily Scheduled Trip Cape Town has one of the best locations to see the Sunset from the Sea. With the Atlantic Ocean stretching away from the majestic Table Mountain range, this is certainly a ‘must do’ cruise for locals and tourists alike. Toast the setting sun from the deck of one of Waterfront Charters amazing range of vessels. A complimentary glass of local sparkling wine (two glasses per guest, or a bottle for a couple) will be served, and the bar will be open for all other drinks for the duration of the cruise. Cape Town weather can change five times a day, so our route from the harbour is not always predictable; the two options below are merely a guide. But no matter which direction we take be assured of a spectacular cruise. SUNSET UNDER SAIL The sailboats Esperance and Serenity One follow the wind for this cruise. They do not offer a specific destination for this reason; you will be advised before departure as to the expected direction. The typical Cape Town summer wind blows from the south-east; the boats use the motors to leave the harbour and then they sail across Table Bay towards Milnerton lighthouse, returning to the protection of Granger Bay in the lee of Table Mountain to watch the sunset, and then motor back to the Waterfront. In the winter months with the northwester prevalent, the direction taken will be toward the Clifton Coastline, or the Robben Island Coastline, also returning to Granger Bay. The wind and sea conditions change daily so the routing and style of the trip also change to meet the conditions; the skipper and crew will give you the best possible adventure. SUNSET ON A MOTOR VESSEL The Motor Vessels Sea Princess and Southern Cross follow a different route to the sailing boats. As they are not dependant on the wind they offer a destination and normally cruise slowly along the Atlantic seaboard towards Clifton beach and then return.
