The process to become a licensed SAHPA/RAASA Tandem Instructor is a minimum of 5 years with 100s of hours, the pilots I spoke to couldn’t quite remember the exact number. What was a consensus was that they all said they required many more years and hours before they felt comfortable with the responsibility of someone else’s life!

Commercial Tandem paragliding is only legal if done by approved instructor pilots. It also can only be done on the understanding that it is instructional and conducted by a certified paragliding instructor or an assistant instructor affiliated with an official paragliding school.

When we arrived, we were given a detailed safety briefing. Once the winds were correct, we were strapped in and all equipment checked on at least 3 occasions. 2020 requires more safety checks and here the civil aviation authority has set out procedures for the safety of the pilots and passengers alike.
